Primers are one of my favorite secret weapons when it comes to beauty products. They have the ability to address a number of skin issues, and give longevity to the makeup applied after.
I’ve come to realize the type of products I need for my skin changes on a day-to-day basis according to what condition my skin is in, and what type of makeup I’m wearing.
–These are the four primers that I rotate, and a little bit about how I use them-
I typically use Urban Decay De-Slick Complexion Primer when I want my makeup to last all day long. It controls oil, minimizes pores, and keeps your foundation set in place. I will say, a little goes a long way with this product, and the application process makes a huge difference. The first time I used it, I rubbed a full pump on my face, and the texture got cakey and crumbled on my skin. To apply it correctly, use half a pump and PRESS it into areas that are oil prone (forehead, nose, and chin). It makes a world of difference!
I love using Step 1 Skin Equalizer Primer by Make Up For Ever under their Ultra HD Invisible Cover Foundation. They are the perfect duo. The primer works as a really great base that evens out texture and blurs pores. It comes in a bunch of different colors too (think yellow, blue, pink etc.), so you can customize and correct any tone issues. My foundation always looks evenly balanced when I use this first, and it lasts longer too.
Ahh, I’ve used Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion for a few years now. It’s the first eye primer I ever tried and the only one- it’s that good! I use this even when I don’t apply shadow to keep my mascara from transferring onto my lids- SO annoying when that happens. What I love most about this primer is how it increases and defines the pigmentation of shadow when you use it. When I skip this step my eye makeup looks dusty and doesn’t last long. It keeps liner from smudging too!
OK, I saved my recent favorite for last. A girl in Ulta was raving about this and told me I HAD to try it. I was a little skeptical at first because it’s a new product and I thought she was pushing it for that reason. I was wrong. I LOVE this Juice Beauty Phyto-Pigments Illuminating primer. It’s perfect for those days when my skin needs a little pick me up. It has just the right amount of illuminator (is that a thing?) in it, and gives my skin the perfect dewy glow. I’ve tried illuminating face products before and they always end up looking messy, but this primer is on point. It also has antioxidant protection with vitamins C & E, and an organic base of botanical juices & extracts. This is a great dupe for the wildly popular By Terry Cellularose Brightening CC Serum (which I love as well), but a lot more affordable!
Have any primers you swear by, or love one of these? Do tell!
